The Ghana FA are attempting to cap Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck ahead of England.
Welbeck is currently on-loan at Sunderland.
Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi told the Sunderland Echo: "We have spoken to Welbeck but we are nowhere with it.
"He is a young man so we need to give him time to make a decision but he is a player we are interested in as a country."
Assistant Ghana coach Kwasi Yeboah added: "The GFA purposely tasked me to speak to him about his future with the Black Stars, which I did.
"I spoke to Welbeck and he is willing to play for Ghana but there are a few things he has to decide on.
"The GFA is doing all it can to woo him, let's all hope it works because he is a good player."
