The Zimbabwe U-20 soccer team has shot to the top of Group C at the COSAFA Youth Championships following a 2-1 win over Botswana at the Nkana Stadium in Kitwe, Zambia today.
The Young Warriors got off to a flying start with Delic Murimba opening the scoring as early as the 2nd minute, capping off a neat build up by tucking the ball home in the bottom left hand corner.
Tinotenda Chiunye could have doubled the lead in the 21st minute but watched his effort go wide as the Young Warriors sought to seal the victory early.
Botswana proved to be no pushovers with Resaobaka Thatanyane unleashing a thumping effort which saw the Young Zebras restore parity and ensure the contest went to the half time break in a 1-all deadlock.
With the game seemingly headed for a draw, Murimba came back to haunt Botswana with a typical goal poacher's goal in the 72nd minute.
The Young Warriors now top Group C with 3 points, ahead of Angola and Lesotho who drew 1-all draw in the opening Group C, while Botswana are bottom.
