Former Highlanders and Zimbabwe midfielder Noel Kaseke is celebrating after winning the Cypriot Cup with his club, Omonia Nicosia.

An early goal by Brazilian striker Andre Alves clinched the Cypriot Cup final for Omonia Nicosia, which won 1-0 against league champion AEL Limassol.

Alves scored after latching on to a pass from Yuval Spungin in the 17th minute. AEL, which surprised many this season by securing its first league title since 1968, was reduced to 10 men 15 minutes later when defender Edwin Ouon was sent off for hitting Andreas Avraam.

The Limassol side still nearly equalized when Chris Dickson had a one-on-one chance against goalkeeper Antonis Giorgallides to beat in the second half. Later, a powerful shot by teammate Edmar struck the post.

Omonia finished its league campaign in third position, while APOEL Nicosia - surprise quarterfinalists in this year's Champions League - came second.
