AFCON Quarter finals wide open as knockout stage is completed

The Africa Cup of Nations 2019 knockout stage is now complete. The last two games of the knockout stage were played last night and we now know who is competing in the quarter finals.
Last night's two games'saw Tunisia taking out Ghana, one of the favourites to win the tournament. The game was decided by penalty shoot out after no conclusion could be reached in extra time. Tunisia led the game 1-0 until the last minute of the game when Tunisia's Rami Bedoui scored an own goal to level the game 1-1 at full time. Tunisia went on to win 5-4 on penalties.
The second last game of the knockout stage was between Ivory Coast and Mali. Les Éléphants took Mali out of the tournament with the score of 1-0 at full time. Wilfried Zaha scored the winning goal of the match in the 76th minute of the game. Ivory Coast has a few days of rest before playing Algeria on Thursday.
Madagascar's national team the Barea has been the talk of the tournament. They finished on the top of their group beating Nigeria 2-0 in the group stages. This is the furthest that the island has ever come in the tournament. They went on to beat DR Congo in the knockout stage of the AFCON and the team now face their biggest challenge yet, as they face Tunisia on Thursday evening.
South Africa's Bafana Bafana is another team that has defied expectations. The team barely scraped through the group stage to get to the knockout stage against the host nation Egypt. Sunday night saw Bafana Bafana stun the whole of Africa by beating the Pharaohs 1-0 at the Cairo International Stadium. They now face rivals Nigeria tomorrow evening. South Africa showed guts and played with passion and the game should be a thrilling encounter.
The last of the four quarter final games is between Benin and Senegal which will be played tomorrow afternoon. Benin beat Morocco 4-1 in a penalty shoot out to take them to the quarter finals. This is the first time that the small country of West Africa has progressed this far in the competition.
