Rahman Gumbo will remain in charge of the Warriors for the next two 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) football qualifiers, amid revelations that suspended coach Norman Mapeza is no longer interested in the job.

Gumbo took over from Mapeza, who still has to be cleared by the Asiagate match-fixing investigating committee led by Justice Ahmed Ebrahim, but has fallen out of favour with the Cuthbert Dube-led Zifa administration.

Mapeza, after his suspension, was asked to continue reporting for work at Zifa House - an issue he did not take kindly to, resulting in him allegedly writing a letter to the board seeking clarification on his status.

After the Warriors' 1-0 defeat by Guinea, fans called for his return to the national team, but he told NewsDay Sport then that he was not commenting on any football-related issues at the moment.

Zifa vice-president Ndumiso Gumede, who is in charge of national teams, confirmed yesterday that the status quo would remain.

"Things will remain as they are for now," Gumede said. "We are just waiting for those two games in September and October and we hope the draw will be kind to us next month."

Gumbo said yesterday: "Let me just rest a bit and enjoy the win. Maybe, we can talk tomorrow (today)."
