CAPS United goalie quits football to join Prophet Makandiwa

Eccentric goalkeeper Muzondiwa Gonese says he is quitting CAPS United for full-time ministry at Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa's UFI church. Gonese, whose two-year-contract expires in December, has not been training with CAPS United since Monday.
"I want to leave CAPS United and that's the reason why I haven't been training with the team since Monday. I want to concentrate on businesses and engage in full time ministry. I run a restaurant in Chitungwiza and I also have an academy that caters for Under-17. My wish is to join UFI inn full time ministry since I am part of the security there. I think my luck ended at Monoz where I managed to buy a house and cars among other properties," he said.
Gonese, who was given the nod to start against Highlanders and Hwange, said he was also upset with the situation at CAPS United.
"It's an unpleasant environment and it's sad that CAPS might be slowly losing the impact. Training sessions used to be exciting but this time you have to think twice. Sometimes we receive different directives from both coaches and it's really confusing. I wanted to soldier on but I realised that I might end up losing my self confidence," he said.
The Green Machine goalie said this season he only started four games against Shabanie Mine, Chicken Inn, Hwange and Highlanders and also claimed that lack of game time had pushed him out. In the last two matches, he said, it was because Edmore Sibanda was injured.
"When CAPS was not performing well, one of the coaches openly told me that he was going to end my career after I was implicated in some sort of gossip. That's when reality struck and I somehow feel wasted," he said.
There has been speculation that he wanted to join Dynamos who look set to lose first choice keeper, Washington Arubi.
"Of course, many Premiership teams want my services. I have been called by several coaches since I was not playing but I will not rush. Maybe next year because I want to rest and concentrate with church business (UFIC) for a while," he said.
