VETERAN Zimbabwean forward Benjani Mwaruwari is to have one final bid to prolong his career as he begins training with SuperSport United this week.

The 34-year-old free agent has been training with Jomo Cosmos since arriving back in South Africa from English side Portsmouth at the end of last season, but says there was never any serious chance of him joining them.

He admits to have held discussions with Bidvest Wits, but adds that nothing concrete came of these, and has said that if he does not win a contract in South Africa, he will retire.

"We are having a look at (him) and we will see how it goes," said United coach Gavin Hunt. "We are looking for another striker, that's for sure, so we will see if he is the one."

Mwaruwari made his name at Cosmos in the 1999-2000 season, before moving overseas where he had successful spells with Auxerre in France and Portsmouth.

He was signed by Manchester City in 2008, but made just 23 appearances in two seasons.

He played for Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers in the English Premiership as well, before an ill-fated return to Portsmouth for the last campaign.

Meanwhile, Hunt confirmed that Kermit Erasmus has been registered for this season, but says the player is some way from being match fit.
