If FIFA statutes are anything to go by, the ban on Zimbabwean players and officials found guilty of match-fixing will have a worldwide effect.
The Zimbabwe Football Association on Friday imposed lifetime bans on some players implicated in the Asiagate scandal, effectively ending the careers of the players and officials in any Zimbabwean team.
However, there was a lack of clarity as to whether these can play or coach their international clubs.
"In accordance with Article 136 of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, and inter alia in relation to match-fixing, the associations shall request FIFA to extend the sanctions taken at national level to have worldwide effect," FIFA clarifies in response to enquiries from KickOff.com.
"Thus, FIFA will be in contact with the Zimbabwe FA in order to be informed of the exact status of the disciplinary proceedings, receive the decisions and take the appropriate measures as soon as possible."
The South African-based trio of Black Leopards coach Sunday Chidzambga, Bidvest Wits defender Thomas Sweswe and Mamelodi Sundowns counterpart Method Mwanjali are some of the personnel ZIFA imposed a life ban on.
