Rahman Gumbo not safe just yet

After the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) disbanded the whole national team, head coach Rahman Gumbo and his assistants, Peter Ndlovu and David Mandigora, survived the initial swing of the axe.
Reports coming out of the country now though claim that not everyone in the ZIFA executive was pleased with the decision, and they are currently divided on the issue of keeping Gumbo as the head coach.
A source in Zimbabwe say that part of the executive wants Gumbo fired and accused him of failing the team following their disastrous exit from the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Warriors spurned a 3-1 advantage over Angola after the first-leg of their qualifiers which saw them sent tumbling out.
"Some officials want the coach fired. They believe it was supposed to be the coach who was fired instead disbanding the whole team," said a source.
"They say the players didn't do well but the coach also played a part by including some players who were involved in the Asiagate scandal."
Asked for comment on the issue, ZIFA vice president Ndumiso Gumede would not get into the issue at present.
