Asiagate appeals deadline tomorrow

THE Zimbabwe Football Association has set tomorrow as the deadline for Asiagate appeals.
Zifa last week announced that it had put in place a special appeals committee and pegged the fee at $6 000. Many have already indicated that they will appeal to clear their names citing a number of reasons why they did not appear before the Ndumiso Gumede and the Justice Ebrahim committees.
In an interview yesterday Zifa chief executive officer, Jonathan Mashingaidze said the national association wanted to conclude appeal cases for those banned for life from football and those handed 10-year suspensions.
"This thing cannot go on for ever, we need to bring final closure to it.
"What we are saying is that the last date for the appeals for the first batch of banned and suspended group is this Friday and after the deadline we will not entertain any appeals. There has been so much talk so we want the appeals to be dealt with now. The fees remain unchanged," said Mashingaidze.
Mashingaidze said Zifa on their part will avail transcripts of the Justice Ebrahim Committee deliberations.
"There are so many files and boxes of the transcripts and we will ensure they are available for use by those appealing," said Mashingaidze.
He described Asiagate as an unfortunate chapter of the local game where gullible players were dragged into it by cunning administrators all for the sake of money.
Meanwhile, Mashingaidze said findings of the Centralgate investigations will be made public today.
He said the Custom Kachambwa committee had finished its investigations on alleged matchfixing in the Central Soccer league last year.
He said the findings will be made public once those involved had been informed.
"The first thing is to notify those involved first before we go public, but we will certainly start the process tomorrow," said Mashingaidze.
Former Fifa panel referee Cosmas Nyoni admitted to playing a part in fixing matches for Hardbody while they were in Division One last year. The matter sucked in Hardbody officials, the regional chairpersons for Central and Southern Region Patrick Hokonya and Gift Banda respectively and Samukeliso Silengane.
In an unrelated case, Mashingaidze disclosed that Zifa president, Cuthbert Dube leaves for Brazil on Tuesday.
He is a member of Fifa/ Confederation Cup organising committee.
The Confederation Cup finals will be held in Brazil next year and will be used as a dress rehearsal of the 2014 World Cup finals.
Dube returns on 3 December.
