PRESIDENT Mugabe yesterday teased Warriors goalkeeper Maxwell Mupanedengu for leaking like a sieve during the Cosafa tournament, costing Zimbabwe the cup.

The Warriors were thumped 2-0 by host Zambia denying them a fifth hold on the regional trophy. Goals scored by Zambia were long range and from free kicks that Mupadedengu could have easily dealt with.

Addressing a rally in Norton yesterday, the President showed he is an avid soccer supporter when he narrated how Zambia scored the two goals.

"Ndinoda kubvunza kuti muri pachokwadi here kundikuta kwamandiita nhasi uku? Mauya kuzoona VaMugabe chete here kana kuzovatsigira? Saka tirikuhwina here? Bhora ririkupinda mugedhi here? Haa, kwete kuita semaWarriors akamwiswa zviviri. Zviviri, haiwa referee hapana zvaakambotadza akanga asiri mapenalties futi, just spot kicks dzakaitwa two.

"Bhora rinorohwa kubva kure-kure, aha, ndakati goalkeeper wedu akaita sei? Asi arikuregerera kuti havazvione? Achiri wedu here kana kuti dzimwe nguva zvakamukanganisawo hatingangoshore imi woye. Hatidi kupotsa gedhi. Hatipotse," he said.

A brilliantly struck goal by Zambian Alex N'gonga early into the match and another one from replacement Kabaso Chongo in stoppage time saw the Zambians, watched by an estimated 35 000 crowd, denied Zimbabwe a fifth COSAFA cup title.

In the end, Zimbabwe, champions when the tournament was staged in Zimbabwe in 2009, had to settle for a second place. Mupanedengu, whose name ironically translates to "one who gives with abandon", has since been dropped by new Warrior coach Ian Gorowa for the Chan tournament.
