CHICKEN INN assistant coach Mkhuphali Masuku has been appointed as one of the three assistant national team coaches to Ian Gorowa and indications are that he is likely to be appointed Under-23 head coach's post.
Sources privy to the closely guarded deal revealed that the former Highlanders and Caps United head coach will this afternoon hold a meeting with the Zifa leadership in Harare where he will then formally be presented to the team and the nation.
"It's a done deal, Masuku will now be one of the senior national team coaches and according to my understanding, Zifa wants to have him as the Under-23 coach since Peter Ndlovu is now at Mamelodi Sundowns," said the highly placed source.
Ndlovu was early this week appointed as the cash-rich South African side's first team manager, taking over from Mike Ntombela.
Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela could not deny nor confirm the appointment of the dreadlocked Masuku.
"Whenever we make appointment official statements are issued and as of now I cannot deny nor confirm what you are saying, until an official appointment has been done, call me tomorrow then," said Gwesela.
Last week Masuku was reportedly sent on a spying mission in Botswana where the hosts were taking on Zambia with the winner set to clash with most likely Zimbabwe in the next and final qualifying round for the 2014 tournament set to be held in South Africa. Masuku however failed to travel to Molepole because the association did not have money for the assignment.
If confirmed, Masuku will join two other assistants Jairos Tapera and Dynamos' Callisto Pasuwa on the bench during the second leg Chan qualifier against Mauritius on Sunday where the Warriors carry a seemingly healthy 3-0 first leg win.
