ONISMOR Bhasera moved a step closer towards joining South African Absa Premiership side Wits University after the team's coach yesterday said he is "definitely" signing the Warriors defender.

Bhasera, who is a free agent after refusing to renew his contract with English League Two side Plymouth Argyle, has been training with Wits since last week.

It seems Wits coach Gavin Hunt is wasting no team in snapping up the former Kaizer Chiefs star.

"Definitely. I am definitely going to sign him. He has shown excellent performance at training and he is fitting well in the team at training. He is a left-sided player we need. He is looking very good and we need him," said Hunt yesterday.

If Bhasera signs as expected, he will be the fifth Zimbabwean at Wits after Tinashe Nengomasha, Denver Mukamba, Thomas Sweswe and Benjani Mwaruwari.

He will also be following in fellow Warriors teammate Knowledge Musona's footsteps who snubbed European clubs in favour of the Absa Premiership.

Meanwhile, Khama Billiat's expected move to Mamelodi Sundowns has been stalled.

Media reports from South Africa yesterday suggested that while Billiat's club Ajax Cape Town has already accepted Sundowns' offer for the transfer, negotiations have broken down after the Warriors winger failed to agree personal terms.

KickOff.com yesterday reported that Billiat could have been a Sundowns player a week ago, but after chatting to some of his Ajax teammates - the likes of Franklin Cale, a former Sundowns player - about the dangers of moving to Chloorkop, he is reconsidering the move.

The website reported that the 22-year-old is now considering a move to Orlando Pirates who have not hidden their interests for the vastly talented player.

Billiat is reportedly in the country.
