Back door qualification fails for Bafana Bafana

South Africa 4 - 1 Botswana
CAR 1 - 2 Ethiopia
South Africa's quest for a back door qualification hit a snag despite a convincing 4-1 win over neighbours Botswana in their 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifier at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Kermit Erasmus and Dean Furman scored in the first half before Bernard Parker added a brace after the break, while Jerome Ramatlhakwane scored the consolation goal for the Zebras.
However, the convincing win was not enough for Bafana Bafana as they finished second in Group A behind Ethiopia, who defeated the Central African Republic 2-1 in Brazzaville. The hosts needed to win the game and needed Ethiopia to either lose or draw against Central African Republic.
That enabled the East Africans to top the pool and reach the final 10-team qualifying stage at the expense of over-rated South Africa.
Teams
South Africa: Khune, Ngcongca, Matlaba, Nthethe, Khumalo, Furman, Dikgacoi (Jali 66'), Parker, Erasmus (Zungu 38'), Tshabalala (Klate 88'), Rantie
Botswana: Dambe, Thuma (Seosenyeng 59'), Nato, Ramatlhakwana, Ngele, Mothatego (Moloi 46'), Moyana (Tshireletso 46'), Mogorosi, Gabonamong, Olerile, Motlabankwe
