EASTERN Region Division One football side Hippo Valley are eight points away from claiming the sole ticket into the Premier Soccer League after registering a convincing 4-1 win against financially-crippled Mkwasine in Chiredzi on Sunday.

Renco Mine, who handed Moses Chunga his second defeat of the campaign last weekend, came stuck against Mutare City Rovers after being knocked down 1-0 at Sakubva.

Mutare City Rovers remained in second position with 43 points from 23 matches, Hippo Valley are at the summit of the log standings with 57 points with seven games before the season's curtain comes down.

Mkwasine almost failed to fulfill their match against Hippo because of their financial crisis and they came late for the match which however went on.

In an interview yesterday, Hippo Valley chairman Tarisai Mudambanuki said that only a disaster will stop them from gaining promotion.

"If we can win our next matches, perhaps two of them, then we will gain promotion.

"The stage has already been set, there were fireworks today (Sunday) and fans are really sure that we have secured the ticket," he said.

"What is important at the moment is that we should continue to play our normal football and currently, I am happy with how the team is playing.

"Every team always aims to beat us, so we need to be at our best always," he added.
