Dembare directors, club fans clash

The Dynamos Board of Directors says a new membership drive for Dynamos Football Club will be launched as a way to formalise the supporters' institution.
A storm is brewing between the Dynamos Private Limited board of directors and its key stakeholders, the Dynamos Football Club fans, following the board's decision to dissolve all supporters' structures citing a need to formalise the section.
The board of directors on Thursday issued a notice barring its supporters from using the company's name to operate bank accounts on behalf of Dynamos Football Club and that all merchandise of Dynamos or DeMbare's memorabilia should be done with the authority of the company.
Director of Finance in the Dynamos Private Limited Robinson Rundaba said the board arrived at the decision after realising certain individuals were benefiting at the expense of the club.
"We went around the country and saw the various supporters institutions; others with bank accounts under Dynamos. We saw people running big shops with Dynamos regalia. We have seen supporters going to companies under our name to get help which they do and yet it doesn't benefit the club. We can't continue having that," said Rundaba.
However, the supporters' leadership led by Philemon Bonde expressed shock at the board of directors' decision and accused it of refusing to acknowledge their contribution, especially after they thought their operations were with their blessings.
"We are surprised to see the notice too because as supporters, our desire was to help them raise resources for the team. This team is mainly for the poor and our initiative started way back when it was under community management. Now to hear they don't know us is a big shock. The water the team drinks for the past three seasons is our initiative," Bonde said.
Dynamos is one of Zimbabwe's oldest football teams having been in existence since 1963.
The club, which will celebrate its golden jubilee this year, sadly has nothing to show for its rich history in local football with bankruptcy being the club's perennial threat.
