TRIPPLE B striker Aleck Marime allegedly assaulted goalkeepers' coach Charles Joe following a dispute at a pub in Beitbridge last Saturday.
Matabeleland South deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Christopher Ngwenya confirmed the incident. Ngwenya said on Friday around 12 midnight, the goalkeepers' coach was instructed to go and tell players not to drink beer before a match.
"Joe is said to have found the players at Gomo Heights and when he got there he was carrying a glass because he was also drinking alcohol. He is said to have left a glass which he used to drink beer with another player as he was going to the toilet," he said.
During his absence Marime allegedly threw the glass on the floor and on his return Joe questioned the player on the whereabouts of his glass.
Marime allegedly confronted Joe accusing him of always wanting to pick a fight with him.
"Marime started punching Joe with fists prompting him to fall on the steps," Ngwenya said.
"He fractured a right leg in the process."
Ngwenya urged people to desist from fighting when they have disputes.
However, Tripple B president Edward Kanyangu last week sought to downplay the incident.
"Those are just rumours I am surprised to hear that because Joe travelled with the team to Bulawayo for the (Wednesday) added match against Highlanders," he said.
