Kaindu refuses to sign contract over Chuma

HIGHLANDERS coach Kelvin Kaindu has refused to put his signature for a contract extension with the Bulawayo giants in protest over the club's decision not to renew goalkeepers' coach Tembo Chuma and assistant coach Bekithemba Super Ndlovu's contracts.

The duo's contracts with Highlanders run out at the end of this month.

Impeccable sources within the Mbada Diamonds Cup winners' camp told Chronicle Sport that the Zambian national went livid upon hearing that his lieutenants would not be with him next year and told the executive in no uncertain terms that he would only pen his signature when he knows the identity of the people that he would work with.

"It's not true that Kaindu has renewed his contract with Highlanders, yes the club has offered him the option of renewal and when he was on the verge of penning his signature which was supposed to have happened this past week, he decided not to on hearing that Chuma and Ndlovu will not be part of his bench next year," said the source.

Highlanders chairman Peter Dube could neither confirm nor deny the imminent technical bench changes.
Said Dube: "We are still talking, we want to get a position that will be to the best interest of the club and this community.

"If anyone has a question and or queries they are free to approach us and we will gladly provide answers, we don't fear anything," said Dube.

Kaindu's new contract, just like the one he had, will be performance-based and it is in that regard that he feels he should have some input on the people that he will work with.

"If the contract is performance based, naturally the people that will work with him will have a huge say on the results and Kaindu feels the club should not impose assistants on him.

"However we understand when he raised this issue the club told him that it was not his jurisdiction to choose assistants," said the source.
Chuma, who has had two goalkeepers gracing the Castle Lager Soccer Stars of the Year calendar, is said to have lost the executive's favour after he allegedly leaked some vital information to the media, an allegation that was never proven.

Ndlovu was never forgiven for failing to steer Highlanders to victory against Harare City when the Bulawayo giants lost 0-4, a result that probably saw them failing to win the league title.

"Our decision will be in the best interest of this club. We will not be influenced in making our decision like what happened a few years ago when the media chose their own coaches, no," said Dube.

He assured the multitudes of Highlanders supporters that the technical bench would be in place well before the 2014 preseason preparations begin in mid January.

Meanwhile, Zifa Southern Region Division One side Tsholotsho FC head coach Lizwe Sweswe could be Kaindu's assistant next season.
Sweswe, brother to former Highlanders strongman Thomas Sweswe, is presently on attachment at Absa Premiership side Wits University.
