Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly ready to offer a staggering triple pay rise to star midfielder Luka Modric to entice the player to leave Tottenham in the summer.

The 25-year-old, who would attract a transfer fee of around £30million, is currently on a £45,000 a week deal at White Hart Lane.

However, the Croatian could bump his wage up to at least £130,000 a week if he joins either Chelsea or United and would also have the opportunity of playing in the prestigious Champions League again.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy could make an exception to his wage structure to keep Modric at White Hart Lane but he will not offer as much as Chelsea or United.

According to News of the World, a source close to the player said: "Luka has enjoyed his time at Spurs but he has had a taste of Champions League football and he wants more of it.

"There are no guarantees Tottenham will qualify on a regular basis and he would listen to offers from any club that can offer those guarantees."

Tottenham's highest paid players are Robbie Keane and Gareth Bale who both earn £65,000 a week
