STUNG by the unexpected departure of his two key players, Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu on Friday opened up from his base in Zambia, saying it was a huge loss to the club.
Kaindu opened up moments after news filtered through that the Bulawayo giants had just received about $100,000 to be used as players' signing on fees from their sponsors, BancABC.
He earlier on yesterday posted a rhetorical question on his Facebook wall, "What is happening?" He later on pulled it down.
In an interview with Chronicle Sport on Friday, Kaindu also said it was amazing that people at one time claimed Highlanders had no quality players but now everyone was stampeding to sign them.
"Very big loss there, players were like family to me, we shared everything, we conquered because we had a reason to," said Kaindu.
"There is a reason for everything believe in God as he works miracles, who thought Bosso will be where we are, people said there were no players now they want to buy everyone from us, FOOTBALL!"
While BancABC officials could not be reached for confirmation as their marketing manager Muriel Dowa was said to be on leave and only coming back on Monday an employee said: "We understand something was forwarded to Highlanders."
Highlanders chairman Peter Dube went ballistic when asked about the windfall.
"Go and ask your usual sources who always tell you information about Highlanders. Why are you coming to me when you already have the information? So you want me to rubber stamp what you already have? We know who you are writing for so go and verify with your sources but as for me I am not aware that we have received some money," said Dube.
He didn't say who Chronicle wrote for.
He has previously claimed this reporter was pushing a certain social club's agenda.
"Yesterday (Thursday), we had just given Njabulo Ncube a clearance letter and moments later you had something on Facebook. Who will be telling you these things?" charged Dube.
However, the Njabulo Ncube story was posted on the official Highlanders' Facebook page, Highlanders fc Bosso before midday on the same day.
A well-placed source though, confirmed that the money was now reflecting on the club's accounts and the club was now optimistic of retaining all their out-of-contract players and those that they are targeting.
Highlanders lost their last season's top goal-scorer Ncube and Masimba Mambare to FC Platinum and Dynamos respectively within a week.
Kaindu also refuted claims that he will miss 10 weeks at Highlanders as a result of his Uefa B licence course he is doing in the United Kingdom. In Zambia the coach is undergoing a Caf A licence course that will end on January 19 before he flies out to the UK the next day.
He assured the Tshilamoya fans that he will be in Bulawayo before the season starts and there was no need to panic.
"I will join the team before the season starts, of course. My last class in the UK is February then I am back and only go there to graduate, not to worry," he said.
The Zambian signed a two-year performance based contract on December 28 last year, three days before the expiry of his initial two-year engagement.
On each of the two years he has been in charge, the former Zanaco and Highlanders player came second to Harare giants Dynamos by virtue of an inferior goal difference.
Bosso, who have started their pre-season training, are under former developmental side and Zimbabwe Saints coach Mark "Duvillard" Mathe, a shrewd mentor himself.
He is being assisted by Bekithemba Ndlovu with legendary goalkeeper, Peter "Captain Oxo" Nkomo taking the goalkeepers through their paces.
