RAHMAN GUMBO started work at FC Platinum yesterday morning at Mandava, which will be the new home ground for the miners.
He was unveiled as the new FC Platinum coach by club secretary Phillimon Muven-gwa yesterday after the morning training session.
Fans had waited for hours hoping to see the man in action.
Some doubted whether he would be presented amid rumours that he had signed for Kaizer Chiefs.
"Rahman has officially started work this morning (yesterday)," said Thadson Zhou, the FC Platinum chairman.
"He has signed a long-term contract and will be here for more than three years
"He will be assisted by Tendai Chikuni, Philani Mabhena, goalkeepers' coach Peter Nkomo and Patrick Mandizha will also be part of the team as an apprentice.
"We are happy with his appointment. We regard him as one of the best coaches in the world and we hope he is going to get the results for us in our quest to win the championship. It is not a secret that we want the championship. We would like to urge our fans, the Zvishavane community and those who are behind FC Platinum to rally behind Gumbo.
"We shall be unveiling him formally to the community at a date to be advised."
Gumbo was elated to be back home.
"It feels good to be back home after a long time. I have a challenge ahead of me and I like challenges," said Gumbo.
Gumbo was coaching Botswana side Mochudu Centre Chiefs and bade farewell to them last week.
He won the B-Mobile League championship with Township Rollers last season.
He was assisted by Chikuni in Malawi and Botswana and Gumbo brought him to FC Platinum.
Gumbo replaces Benjamin Moyo who died on Good Friday.
His first task will be guiding FC Platinum to victory when he faces his former paymasters Highlanders at Mandava next Wednesday.
He won the league championship with Bosso. Gumbo was in charge of MTL Wanderers in Malawi in 2006 and won the league championship in his first year.
He has also coached CAPS United and Motor Action on the local scene.
He has taken over a club that is already in second place in the Castle Lager Premiership with 20 points, four points adrift of leaders Motor Action.
