Delta Beverages renewing PSL sponsorship

Delta Beverages have confirmed that they will be renewing their deal with the Premier Soccer League (PSL), but are still keeping the details of the new deal under wraps.
"We will be renewing our sponsorship with the PSL this season and we expect the contract to be announced ahead of the season's kick off, with the finer details of the contract to be revealed in due course," said Delta Corporation marketing manager Patricia Murambinda.
Murambinda said the delay in announcing the new deal, which was scheduled to be made soon after the Christmas holiday, had been caused by some unresolved issues which needed to be cleared before the new sponsorship would be unveiled.
"A lot of consideration was given to learnings that have come through in the last three years, hence the process took longer than anticipated," she said.
During last year's Soccer Star of the Year Awards, Delta Beverages bemoaned lack of appreciation from the biggest beneficiary of the company's financial backing to local sport, citing gross miscalculation and fights among the PSL leadership as the major reason which had discouraged them and was responsible for holding back other potential sponsors.
But it seems the two parties have now reached an understanding, with Murambinda dismissing lingering fears over the local beverages manufacturer's future committment to funding the local top flight in the wake of the company's statements during last year's soccer star banquet.
She stated Delta Beverages' commitment to improving the game of football in the country.
"We have worked together with the PSL to uplift the face of domestic football in the country for the last three years and there is a lot of work to be done, but we will walk the road one step at a time," said Murambinda.
"There are no sticking issues with PSL, but we had to be thorough in reviewing the progress made so far in reference to the sponsorship to better football in the country in the next contract. Our relationship with PSL is sound now and going into the future."
There has been clamour from local football stakeholders for an upward review of the sponsorship package, which saw the company, through its Castle Lager brand, investing $600 000 per year to the PSL in the last three years.
