The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) through its partnership with the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) is set to build a state-of-the-art Stadium in the football starved town of Gwanda.
ZIFA reportedly wrote to council recently requesting their support of the project.
The municipality of Gwanda has already offered some land at Spitzkop North township for the construction of the stadium that would also house ZIFA offices.
ZIFA and council officials are set to hold a meeting later this month to chat the way forward over the stadium project.
The issue of the new stadium was reportedly discussed in a full council meeting held recently and it got a thumbs up from all councilors.
Soccer lovers said a new stadium would improve the standards of football in the province.
Gwanda teams have struggled to make it to the premier league with the popular Gwanda Ramblers now defunct.
Former Bulawayo premier league side Njube Sundowns once used Phelandaba Stadium in Gwanda as their home ground but poor maintenance has resulted in it being condemned.
