Match officials hogged the limelight Wednesday as reigning Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions Dynamos secured their first victory in four league matches through a controversial penalty converted by left-back Ocean Mushure.

The defender's hotly disputed 86th minute spot-kick ensured that the Glamour Boys left the giant National Sports Stadium in the capital as unlikely victors, while FC Platinum were left screaming "robbery."

FC Platinum coach Lloyd Mutasa, whose unbeaten run against his former paymasters came to an end after yesterday's result, blamed poor officiating by the referees for the defeat, alleging that local football games are being played and won before the teams step onto the pitch.

"It's a pity games are won outside the field of play. We spend a lot of energy and resources working with the youngsters, but at the end of the day somebody decides which team is supposed to win. Such is football in Zimbabwe," said Mutasa.

While Kugona Kunenge Kudada were livid over the poor officiating, Dynamos coach Kalisto Pasuwa was relived at getting the three points after going for nearly a month without a win.

"We got three points and we played very well, that is what we needed at the end of the day," the DeMbare gaffer told reporters.

The Glamour Boys could have taken a lead as early as the sixth minute after Mushure's attempt off a free-kick struck the crossbar.

The early warning spurred FC Platinum into action with the Zvishavane-based side dominating the disjointed DeMbare midfield.

Mutasa's charges came close to scoring in the 18th minute through striker Donald Ngoma, who received a cross from the right flank, but directed his effort into the hands of Dynamos goalkeeper George Chigova.

Seven minutes later Dynamos, who were now working their way back into the match, could have drawn first blood through pint-sized midfielder Ronald Chitiyo whose bicycle kick was saved by FC Platinum goalkeeper Petros Mhari.

Dynamos continued to pile pressure on the visitors, who were increasingly on the backfoot with the hosts' striker Washington Pakamisa the next to threaten Mhari's goal area when he send a header off Mushure's cross just wide.

The visitors then missed a glorious chance five minutes before the break after fine exchange of passes between Donal Ngoma and Marshall Mudehwe resulted in the latter finding Njabulo Ncube, who took time to shoot, giving the Dynamos defence ample time to recover and clear the threat.

Lloyd Mutasa made a double substitution in the 50th minute, pulling out Mudehwe and Ncube for Raymond Sibanda and Tarisai Rukanda respectively.

The platinum miners could have broken the deadlock in the 53rd minute through Thabani Kamusoko, whose goal-bound free-kick was tipped away for a corner kick by Chigova.

In the 55th minute, Pasuwa also made a double substitution as he introduced Patrick Khumbula and Cliff Sekete for Tichaona Mabvura and Pakamisa.

A minute later, Chitiyo flighted a cross which found misfiring striker Simba Sithole inside the box, but the forward's shot was brilliantly saved by Mhari.

With the match seemingly headed for a stalemate, match referee Ruzive Ruzive would then make a controversial decision five munites before full-time.

Khumbula delivered a cross into the FC Platinum box and with Simba Sithole going to ground after what appeared a legal challenge by Gift Bello, Ruzive pointed to the spot, attracting the ire of the FC Platinum players and officials.

Mushure converted the spot-kick to hand Dynamos a hard-earned, yet contentious 1-0 victory.
