Mutare-based side Buffaloes will be hoping to return to winning ways when they take on log leaders Highlanders in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) match set for Sakubva Stadium this Sunday.

The Luke Masomere-coached side come into the match low on confidence after a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Triangle in the Lowveld on Wednesday.

Morale is currently rock bottom  in the soldiers' camp over unpaid allowances and salaries and players had reportedly refused to travel to the Lowveld for the tie in protest over their outstanding dues.

Prior to Wednesday's horror show, Buffaloes were undefeated in six matches. Incidentally, the only other game Watungwa Watungwa have lost this season was another 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Hwange on April 6.

However, against the league's big guns, Buffaloes have been flawless, securing away wins over two of last season's top three teams - Dynamos (1-0) and Harare City (1-0).

Buffaloes are also unbeaten at home, but tomorrow face a Highlanders outfit that is yet to taste defeat in the league this season.

Highlanders, who are chasing a first league championship since 2006, come into the match against Buffaloes oozing with confidence after defeating struggling Harare City 1-0 in Bulawayo on Thursday.

And after conceding that Bosso would pose a massive test for Buffaloes, Watungwa Watungwa secretary general and spokesperson, Tendai Chitova called on football fans in the eastern border city to come in their numbers to rally behind Mutare's sole PSL representative.

"We would like to collect maximum points against Highlanders," said Chitova.

"Yes, we are coming from a defeat, but it's part of the game. The team is re-grouping and you never know what will happen on Sunday.

"If we manage to beat Highlanders then we stand a chance to be at the top of the log standings because they are just two points ahead of us," he added.

"All football fans in Mutare should come in their numbers because they are our first sponsors. We can generate money from the gate-takings to pay our players' allowances and attend to other pressing matters."
