JUST a day after Moses "Bambo" Chunga announced he had quit Chiredzi FC over differences with members of the executive, the former Zimbabwe international made a sensational U-turn yesterday.
He declared he had decided not to leave and was now committed to see his project in the Lowveld bearing fruit after spearheading efforts to lobby for the franchise.
"Chiredzi is my home, I have relocated with my family down here and all my kids are going to school here," said Chunga.
That alone is the sign of commitment over the development of soccer in peripheral areas, especially here in Chiredzi.
"Some stakeholders told me that you are not going anywhere. I have been built my legacy for almost 35 years now and I have never failed before so I don't want to fail the people of Chiredzi and the players who pledged to be here because of me."
In a meeting held at Chiredzi town offices on Sunday, Chunga and the club's leadership tried to iron out their differences over the funds realised from Dynamos match at Chishamiso.
But the coach was left frustrated at the allegations laid against him and comments that were made by some of the club's leaders to the media.
Chunga acknowledged that he received $4 000 but denied that he took it without the knowledge Chiredzi FC leadership. He revealed that it had already been planned that the money realised from the Dynamos game would be shared among the officials and players who have not been paid their salaries and bonuses for almost six months now.
Captain Fidelis Mangezi, revealed that vice-chairman Joel Sithole, had agreed with players that the money was to be shared among players but they could not go and collect money and decided to send their coach. Chunga said he does not carry grudges and doesn't mind working with the current executive but stressed that he was not happy with the way they handled the issue.
"It would have been better if they had called me to discuss the matter and help me if I had made a mistake by taking the money to the players," said Chunga.
"I am not saying I am the best man on earth, everyone makes mistakes and I value them and that is the reason why I decided to team up with them.
"I hope we will make a formidable side with the same set-up."
