The wait is finally over, and as earlier predicted by the Siya crew, SAFA president Danny Jordaan announced that the new Bafana Bafana coach is SHAKES MASHABA.

This will be Mashaba's fourth stint in charge of the team. He was officially the coach from 2002 to 2003, while was also caretaker twice, in 1992 and in 2001.

He will replace the unsuccessful Gordon Igesund, who did not have his contract renewed after failing to revive the national team in a two year stint.

After being appointed Igesund was given the mandate of reaching the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations hosted by South Africa, and reach the World Cup finals. He was unable to achieve either.

Igesund replaced Pitso Mosimane in 2012, after the latter had failed to qualify Bafana for the African Cup of Nations finals due to the head-to-head rule, and drew the opening 2014 World Cup qualifying at home against Ethiopia.

The new coach will be hoping to the first coach of the South African national team ever to last a full four year campaign, and reach the finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Including caretakers, this will be the 24th coaching change for Bafana Bafana in their 22 year existence.
