CHAMPIONSHIP favourites Tsholotsho FC have shot to the top of the Zifa Southern Region Division One Soccer League after beating Mpumalanga United 2-0 at Tsholotsho Business Centre at the weekend.

Tsholotsho FC went into the weekend just two points behind table toppers Technosphere who were inactive.

Lizwe Sweswe, the Tsholotsho FC coach applauded his team's good performance.

"We have managed to beat some of the top teams and now what we have to do is to continue with our good form," said Sweswe

Sweswe said that there was still a long journey before the conclusion of the race.

"Mpumalanga is a good side and we were lucky to sail past them, we had anticipated a draw. We still have a long run towards the championship and I have been telling my players that this is a marathon, so they should not relax just because they are now the table toppers. We have to concentrate throughout the season," said Sweswe.

Tsholotsho's Rodrick Mufudza was the first to score in the early minutes of the first half followed by teammate Ocient Ncube getting a second goal for Tsholotsho in the second half.

The 14-team league is now on the half way mark of the season and Sweswe is optimistic that his boys will keep up the good momentum they have shown in the remaining half of the league.

In other matches Portland Cement managed to share spoils with ninth positioned New West in a match that ended 0-0.
