Veteran football administrator and Highlanders chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede has rallied the Kevin Kaindu-coached side rise to the occasion and finally bring an end to Dynamos' dominance over them when the teams face off at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo today.
Bosso have played second fiddle to DeMbare over the past decade, with the Bulawayo giants yet to defeat their rivals since their title winning campaign in 2006.
However, Gumede, whose side fell to a 0-1 defeat in their most recent clash with Dynamos on June 22, believes the time has come for the tables to be turned and the script re-written.
"All I can say is that every dog has its day and tomorrow (today) could be that day for us, and we will undoubtedly celebrate. But if we lose, we will be humble and accept defeat," he said.
The Bosso CEO challenged both clubs' supporters to show maturity and responsible behaviour ahead of the clash and avoid the unruly actions of previous years where some of the fans, who found defeat a bitter pill to swallow, turned violent.
"I would like to appeal to fans from both Highlanders and Dynamos to show maturity today and behave themselves in a dignified manner," said Gumede. "We actually sat down with the police to discuss match day security and I believe what we discussed is going to be enough for us to host a violence free game."
The epic clash comes at a time when both teams are going through a difficult patch despite their lofty positions on the log table.
Highlanders are winless in three games, while Dynamos have drawn their last two games.
But while there have been murmurs of disapproval from the Highlanders fans following the club's recent poor run or form, with some suggesting the Bulawayo giants should sack Kaindu, Gumede yesterday threw his weight behind the Zambian gaffer.
"People talk. But what I can tell you is that our board is made up of astute men of football who know that there are three kinds of results to expect from a game, that is a win, loss and a draw. So we are not worried about this short streak of bad luck," he said.
