There is little doubt that Ellis Park will be buzzing as Highlanders 'Bosso' command a huge following in South Africa, as was witnessed last year when more than 20 000 fans descended on Johannesburg Stadium for their match against Jomo Cosmos.
The organisers of the Winter Cup, which they plan to make an annual event, confirm that it is all systems go for the match on Saturday, with Bosso flying in on Friday afternoon with a delegation of 25.
"Highlanders will have a work-out at the venue straight after their arrival," says Michelle Varner, events and promotions manager at EPWOS.
"We plan to have this as an annual event where teams from Africa play local teams. This is all about fostering relations with our African neighbours and we have started with Zimbabwe because we have a lot of Zimbabweans in South Africa," Varner says.
Both Highlanders and Celtic will bring their strongest teams for the game. The winner will receive R150 000 with the losers walking away with R100 000.
The two teams will also get R50 000 in appearance fees.
Highlanders are set to touch down at OR Tambo International Airport at 2pm on Friday and supporters have been urged to go and meet their beloved Bosso at the airport.
The Zimbabwean soccer giants are guided by young coach Mkhuphali 'Mr Cooper' Masuku and are expected to have inspirational skipper Gilbert Banda leading the team as Platinum Stars – where he is currently on trial – have agreed to release him for the match.
