Division one outfit Highfield United travel to take on flashy side Supersport United and Tucks in a historic friendly international in Pretoria, South Africa next week.
Highfields United, who are feuding with former Coventry and Sundowns star Peter Ndlovu over salaries, are in negotiations with the former South African PSL champions and could also face Tuks FC of the University of Pretoria.
Tuks coach Steve Barker revealed they would try their best to accommodate the Zimbabweans.
"We have a prior engagement with Bidvest Wits on July 28. But we are willing to play them either on July 29 or 30, depending on which date suites them better as we are flexible."
While United Chief Operations Officer Jose Ferreira told SuperSport that a friendly date could be secured once Gavin Hunt returns from a coaching course in Europe. Highfield United claims that the match has been set for July 27 at the 32 000-capacity Lucas Moripe Stadium (formerly Super Stadium) in Atteridgeville.
Ferreira said: "Yes we have received a challenge to play a practice match with Highfield United. And once Gavin returns we will discuss the matter further and agree on a date to host them."
It will be the first time a local Division One team has met a top South African side and demonstrates Highfield United's spirited ambitions under their proprietors, Twalumba Holdings. Nkululeko Sibanda, the club president, announced the trans-Limpopo encounter saying the second leg would be staged in Harare on a date to be advised but before the 2011-2012 'Super Diski' season commences next month.
Highfield owner Dr Nkulu Sibanda added: "We are on a short break in Zimbabwe and we thought it appropriate to bring the boys down for a bit of a challenge against South African teams.
"The match has been confirmed and we will be travelling to South Africa for the first leg. Supersport want us to assist in their pre-season preparations," said Sibanda.
