FORMER Zimbabwe captain Benjani Mwaruwari has left English Premier League club Blackburn Rovers after his contract extension hit a snag.
The 32-year-old striker returned to Blackburn Rovers last week after he was offered a new one-year deal, but he rejected the financial terms of the offer on Friday.
He told New Zimbabwe that when he arrived at Blackburn last year he had an option for an extension. So when the club said they were offering him a new one-year deal, expectations were that it would be on the same terms.
He allegedly said after speaking to the club this week, it became clear an agreement would be difficult and now he have to consider his options and listen to other offers.
The former Portsmouth, Manchester City and Sunderland striker confirmed he is prepared to play in the Championship if the right club comes along.
