Chungwa snubs Dembare

Caps United striker Dominic Chungwa has reportedly made a dramatic U-turn to prolong his stay at MaKepeKepe for another season despite strong links with a move across town to join arch rivals Dynamos for the 2015 football season.

Dembare is struggling to pin down some of their top strikers for another season following a reduction of BancABc sponsorship deal.

The Glamour Boys face challenges in securing new contracts with some of their strikers, Roderick Mutuma, Simba Sithole and Washington Pakamisa's future with the club uncertain. Chungwa's reported decision to join the club was going to be a partial solution to their headache, but it appears the striker would instead be donning his green and white jersey for another season before his contract with the Green machine expires at the end of this year.

Despite some interests by the Caps United player to join David Mandigora's team this season, sources close to Caps United excecutive explained that the club was not ready to let him go after the team's recent player exodus.

"He has a running contract until December 31 2015 and he could be staying for another season with us. We have been losing a lot of senior players, with the coming in of (new coach, Mark) Harrison this could be good news to us," said the source.

"He has assured the executive that he will finish his contract at Caps United and we hope it's not a fluke for him to get what he wants. With many senior players out of contract, the new technical team and the executive will have to utilise the running contracts of some of the senior players."

In an interview with The Zimbabwe Mail yesterday, Chungwa confirmed he would be continuing to offer his services to Caps United despite not dismissing claims of leaving his current employers.

"I am still contracted to Caps United, my contract ends at the end of this year. At the moment there are some complications that we have to sort out," he said.

"I will only be able to comment on the issue next week, but for now I am a Caps United player and I could be playing for them again this season."

This comes barely a few days after Dembare secretary General Webster Chikengezha said the Caps United striker had misrepresented facts to the Glamour Boys after approaching them as a free agent.

Chikengezha said Chungwa would only be welcome to join Dynamos after "clearing the contractual agreement with Caps United."
