LONDON. - Zimbabwe Warriors captain and striker Benjani Mwaruwari has completed a return to former club Portsmouth after turning down the chance to stay at Blackburn Rovers.

Benjani was out of contract at Ewood Park, but had been offered a deal by Rovers boss Steve Kean to stay in the English Premier League.

The Zimbabwean scored three goals in 21 appearances for Rovers last season, but has opted to rejoin Portsmouth on a one-year deal.

He initially moved to Fratton Park in 2006 and spent two years on the South Coast before leaving for Manchester City.

The 33-year-old scored 19 goals in 77 games for Pompey in his first stint at the club, a tally which included two hat-tricks in the Premier League.

Benjani was paraded before the Portsmouth fans before Saturday's Championship game at home to Rbrighton & Hove Albion.
