Tsholotsho 2-0 Whawha
RURAL boys, Tsholotsho FC condemned lethargic fellow league debutants Whawha to a 2-0 defeat at Ascot Stadium yesterday.
A brace by Lynnoth Chikuhwa ensured that Iziqholo ZeZhwane collected their second set of maximum points after winning their debut Premiership match against Harare City on the opening day of the season.
Chikuhwa took advantage of some sloppy marking by the hosts to rifle home a low shot inside the box in the 20th minute before completing his brace in the 57th minute after heading in a cross by Olient Ncube.
Whawha technical adviser, Lloyd Mutasa was the first to admit that his side never came to the party.
"We never played well today as we didn't create any meaningful chances. We gave them easy goals and now we need to pull our socks and ensure we collect points at home," he said.
Lizwe Sweswe, the Tsholotsho gaffer was full of praise for his lads saying they were slowly gaining confidence.
He said: "It's coming up like I've said before, we're a new team coming from Division One and what's needed is to instill confidence in these players so that they believe in themselves.
"Our plan is to avoid losing away and then fight to collect maximum points and this is still work in progress," he said.
It was Iziqholo ZeZhwane who took the initiative when Chikuhwa gained possession in the Whawha box and took advantage of some shoddy marking by the Whawha rearguard which badly exposed their goalie, Polite Sibanda.
He charged towards goal before rifling home a low shot which nestled in the far post to silence the home crowd.
The second half started with Mutasa making some changes by taking off Takudzwa Jukulile for striker Albert Matewu.
Matewu harassed the opposition defenders and in the 50th minute his efforts almost paid off as his shot was blocked by Chang Mariyoni which led to a goalmouth melee but the final shot by Kenneth Bhuka went over the bar.
That was to be the last meaningful shot at goal for the hosts as seven minutes later Chikuhwa completed his brace.
Tsholotsho won a freekick on the left flank which was delivered by Ncube. Whawha goalkeeper failed to cut the cross and the ball fell Ncube's head who made no mistake from close range.
The visitors could have extended their lead five minutes from time when Kriess Chitiyo's thunderbolt from just outside the box went over the bar by inches.
