Dynamos 2 - 0 Shabanie
CUTHBERT MALAJILA struck a beauty, which could be a big contender for the Goal of the Season award, as Dynamos won a crucial game at Rufaro yesterday to move within just five points of the Castle Lager Premiership leaders.
The Harare giants were the biggest winners yesterday after leaders Motor Action and FC Platinum dropped points in a draw in Zvishavane and Bosso also dropped points in a draw at Barbourfields.
Dynamos leapfrogged Highlanders into third place and the Glamour Boys and their fans should now be fancying their chances of staging a remarkable comeback to win the league title.
The seasoned Malajila scored his second goal, in as many games following his return to Dynamos, with a powerful shot that was hit with both venom and accuracy and nestled into the top right hand corner.
It was also Callisto Pasuwa's second win, since he took over from Lloyd Mutasa last week and, more importantly, the win pushed Dynamos to within five points of leaders Motor Action and FC Platinum who are on 41 points.
There was a 30-minute delay to the kick-off at Rufaro as the Dynamos administrators made a request to referee Norman Matemera to allow more fans, who were struggling to gain entrance, into the stadium. A moment of silence in honour of national hero, General Solomon Mujuru, was observed before kick off and the Dynamos players wore black armbands. Dynamos secretary Nyika Chifamba said they were aware of the repercussions the delay caused but they were also trying to avert a potential stampede from fans, who were still trapped outside the ground, by the time of the scheduled kick-off. Fans who arrived in time were restless when the game failed to start and showed their disapproval of the delay with boos and whistling. An unusually big crowd was at Rufaro yesterday as Dynamos' winning formula and the revival of their championship race draws more of their fans to their matches.
Dynamos then took the lead when Mukamba finished off a fine move, involving Muparati and Mutuma, to beat Roy Mazingi in goals for the visitors.
Hardly had the celebrations ended when Malajila scored his second goal in as many matches.
