Highlanders FC under fire head coach Bongani Mafu who has vowed not to quit has claimed that his charges made life easier for Chicken Inn on Saturday by giving away freebies.
The 'freebies' saw the Gamecocks humble Bosso 2 - 1 at Barbourfields Stadium.
After the defeat scores of Highlanders fans made the way to the club house singing songs denouncing Mafu and calling for his immediate stepping down.
Speaking after the match Mafu said all coaches in the premier league are under pressure.
"We played football, they scored the goals, they didn't play football if you give away freebies like we did you get beaten.
"We need support not this antagonism from the fans each time we lose a match."
Speculation has been rife that the coach was given a target of 18 points after 10 matches, something he has failed to achieve as he finds himself on 14 points with four wins, two draws and four defeats.
It is now to be seen whether the Highlanders' leadership will choose between Mafu and a floundering league campaign.
It was not surprising that Mafu was at the end of the match a subject of the unpleasant songs composed by fans at the popular Soweto stand which have been the norm since Highlanders lost to Chapungu last month.
Below is a sample of the latest lyrics
UMafu ebesihamba laye
Kasekho, shuwa kasekho
UBongani ebesihamba laye
Kasekho, shuwa kasekho
Wozani simvalelise
Kasekho, shuwa kasekho
Wozani simvalelise, kasekho
Shuwa kasekho
