Zimbabwe football fans witness 227 goals in 13 weeks of PSL action

THE Castle Larger Premier Soccer League which is on two-week break has seen 227 goals scored in the 104 matches played inside the opening 13 weeks of the 2015 soccer season.
The 227 goals include the three goals - awarded to How Mine for their match against Caps United, when a then troubled Makepekepe failed to turn up at Luveve stadium in Bulawayo.
Another three goals were recorded as own goals in weeks one, ten and eleven.
Kudzayi Maramba was the first to score an own goal in week one as his Buffaloes team lost to champions Dynamos 3-0.
Jimmy Tigere of Triangle returned to Zvishavane, where he had scored an own goal last year against Shabanie, to do the same, this time against FC Platinum as his team lost 3-2 at Mandava. FC Platinum benefitted from another own goal as George Magariro beat his own goalkeeper in week 11.
ZPC Kariba lost the tie 3-0 in their first match in Kariba since gaining promotion in the PSL last year.
A total of 17 of the goals were scored from the penalty spot.
The 17 converted penalties came from eleven different players as ZPC Kariba's Raphael Manuvire scored the most from the spot, which is three times of the six goals he has scored so far.
There was little on hat tricks in the opening 13 weeks, although How Mine's Timothy January who is now on five goals scored four goals in one match against Whawha.
The league has so far witnessed 12 goalless draws. Buffaloes have been involved in the most goalless draws - five times, with caps United on three goalless draws. Hwange has the most draws in the league so far on eight.
