Only two teams will be relegated from the top flight, while two will be promoted at the end of the 2016 season after the ZIFA assembly adopted proposals from the Premier Soccer League.

It is anticipated this will stabilise and bring consistency that will yield positive results of a stronger topflight league.

"The PSL's motion to reduce the number of teams relegated and promoted was finally adopted by the assembly which felt it really had sense.

"Unfortunately the assembly felt putting in the changes this year might not be very ideal so it has been agreed that it takes effect in the 2016 season," ZIFA CEO Jonathan Mashingaidze said.

According to the proposed implementation model, there will be automatic relegation of two teams from the PSL then play offs will be conducted with the four division one regional winners to promote two.

In their justification, the PSL says most teams promoted from the lower divisions have failed to meet the minimum financial obligations required for club licensing.

The relegation of four teams has also caused instability and lack of developmental continuity as 25 percent of its members are relegated each year according to the PSL.
