Highlanders football club finally beat Dynamos after nine years of trying.

Highlanders over came Dynamos by a goal to nil in the Defence Forces Commander's Charity Cup at Rufaro Stadium this afternoon.

Striker Obadiah Tarumbwa scored the solitary goal five minutes into the second half of the highly contested charity match.

Speaking at end of the match Highlanders Secretary General Emmett Ndlovu said the victory was the beginning of things to come for Highlanders.

Dynamos Secretary General Webster Chikengeja down played Highlanders victory under playing the value of the charity match claiming Highlanders will never beat them in a league match or a more competitive cup competition.

However Highlanders fans interviewed after the match threw away the Dynamos official's statement claiming that no match between Highlanders and Dynamos is of any lesser significance.

"Even if it were to be a match for a shake shake box made trophy or for ten points or for a million dollar cup Highlanders versus Dynamos remains at the same rivalry," said Mthokozisi Mpofu who had travelled all the way from Gweru to watch the match in Harare.

Highlanders last beat Dynamos in 2006 and over the years has been losing or drawing to Dynamos in all competitions except one Independence Cup victory decided by a penalty shoot out in 2011.
