VICE PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangangwa is today expected to officially open the 13th edition of the Zimbabwe National Youth Games at Sakubva Stadium in Mutare.
The Games which are being hosted by Manicaland for the second time after their maiden effort in 2005 are running under the theme, "Transforming lives through sport".
The theme is in line with the aims and objectives of ZimAsset.
"Sport is now a big industry and the Zimbabwe National Youth Games provide an opportunity for the youths to showcase their sporting talent so that the national sport associations may take over and create opportunities for them to further their sporting careers.
"It is however pleasing to note that over the years we have been able to produce athletes that have gone on to play at a higher level of sport like Vitalis Chikoko from basketball and Ngoni Makusha from athletics.
"It is our firm conviction that more athletes like Chikoko will be produced through these games.
Given the results that have been produced to date, it therefore affirms the need for support from all the stakeholders if we are scale up the Games so that more sport stars may be produced", said Tirivashe Nheweyembwa the SRC spokesperson.
