ZANU-PF Binga district yesterday unveiled the inaugural Amai Grace Mugabe soccer tournament pitting teams from the district's 25 wards.

The tournament will run from August 29 to September 27, with the teams vying for honours, which include 476 pairs of soccer boots, among other prizes, donated by the First Lady.

According to the tournament organisers, the district will be divided into five zones comprising adjacent wards that will compete in a knockout challenge that will see the top two teams playing against each other for the zonal prize.

The tournament will be held every weekend starting on Saturday, August 29.

Event communications manager Elias Sibanda said to ensure each ward gets a winner, the top two teams in each ward will clash for 16 pairs of soccer boots.

Sibanda said they came up with the tournament after realising that Binga had abundant football talent and the potential to produce national stars.

"We were given these resources by the First Lady and so we decided to share them equally among everyone in the district. We came up with the tournament after noticing that we had so much talent but lacked resources to tap it and take it to a national level. We have future national stars here and this tournament will give them enough exposure and a feel of professionalism," said Sibanda.
