MDC salutes Mighty Warriors
20 Oct 2015 at 10:47hrs | Views
The MDC extends heartiest congratulations to the Mighty Warriors on
their historic qualification to the Olympic Games in Brazil next year, a
rare achievement for Zimbabwean football.
Their qualification has brought honour to the nation and inspiration for this and the next generation.
We congratulate these marvelous women for their remarkable display of sportsmanship that has opened a new chapter in our football history books. We wish them the best of luck at the Olympic Games and it is our hope and wish as the MDC that they will continue to lift the Zimbabwean flag high at the Olympic Games and bring the trophy home.
We also congratulate the Warriors for their 3-1 win against Lesotho on Sunday, propelling them further into the African Nations Championship Finals in 2016.
However against this backdrop of euphoria and excitement of the Mighty Warriors and Warriors achievements, we need not forget the problems that still confront our football in terms of maladministration, corruption, lack of incentives and poor infrastructure. As a nation we need to do some introspection and deal expeditiously and firmly with these challenges if we are genuinely committed to improving our football standards.
