Four candidates have filed their nomination papers for the ZIFA presidential elections ahead of the vetting process as the local soccer mother body gears up for the December 5 elections.
The four are former chairman of Harare City FC, Leslie Gwindi, businessman Phillip Chiyangwa, 1984 Soccer-star-of-the-year James Takavada and former ZIFA boss Trevor Carlisle Juul.
Ex-Warriors skipper, Benjani Mwaruwari, however had not yet filed his nomination papers just a few hours before the nominations close at midnight.
Analysts however said the right candidate must be well versed in a number of football aspects, should be a tried and tested football administrator with a passion for the beautiful game.
The challenge that ZIFA has been facing is to find somebody who has a passion in football and is an astute business person.
"The next ZIFA president must be well versed in a number aspects but I am worried that the ZIFA councillors are searching for qualities externally instead of looking among themselves," football analyst, Stanley Katsande said.
Another analyst, Thomson Matenda, said the quest to re-create the ZIFA legacy through a new president should be anchored on credentials of a tried and tested football administrator.
Nobody is sparing the councillors who many feel have let down the soccer governing body and Alois Bunjira says the councillors will have to ask themselves on the calibre of the men they will elect as he will be a reflection of who they are.
Others in the public domain said the next ZIFA president will have to redeem a sport that has really gone down the drain and above all, he should be the reason either why the sport is a success of a failure in Zimbabwe.
