ZIMBABWE international striker Knowledge Musona continued to shine for his Belgian top-flight club KV Oostende as he scored again yesterday in a seven-goal thriller against champions Gent.
A few days after Gent played in the UEFA Champions League, the good money was on them to win this big tie but Oostende, who were at home, turned on the style as they destroyed the champions.
Musona, who has taken his goals into double figures, scored his team's third goal in an impressive 5-2 victory. The Zimbabwean, who played 87 minutes of the tie, found the target in the 36th minute to give his side a comfortable 3-1 cushion. The game got off to a flyer when Sven Kuns converted from the penalty spot to give the visitors the lead in the seventh minute.
But the hosts quickly hit back in the 12th minute when double scorer Michel Jonckheere equalised for Oostende. Three minutes later, the hosts were ahead when Antonio Milic scored and, in just 15 minutes, three goals had been scored.
Then it was the chance for Musona to get his name on the score-sheet just after the half hour mark and Oostende had turned the game around, coming from a goal down to now take a 3-1 lead.
But the goals just kept coming and in the 41st minute, Laurent Depoitre reduced the deficit for the visitors and, going into the break, the tie was delicately balanced. But just nine minutes after the break, Jonckheere restored Oostende's two goal lead when he struck his second goal to make it 4-2.
When Nana Asare was then sent off for the visitors, any chances of them to stage a comeback were gone and the hosts made it 5-2 in the 90th minute through Yassine El Ghanassy. Oostende, though, still trail leaders Cluub Brugge by 12 points with Gent remaining in second place in the championship race.
Musona's good form will delight Warriors coach Callisto Pasuwa ahead of the 2017 Nations Cup battles against Swaziland next month. The Smiling Assassin scored in the Warriors' last AFCON qualifier, when he equalised against Guinea, and his form is always key for the national team.
