Zimbabwe's Mighty Warriors beat Zambia's Shepolopolo Queens one-nil in the Africa Women Cup of Nations first leg final qualifier match played at Rufaro Stadium this afternoon.
The Mighty Warriors could have won by a wider margin had they not missed several scoring chances especially in the first half.
A solitary strike by Kudakwashe Basopo on the stroke of halftime was enough to ensure the Mighty Warriors are still on course to qualify for the biennale tournament to be hosted by Cameroon from November 19 to December 3 this year.
Coach, Shadreck Mulauzi was thrilled with the result and said they need to consolidate the win in Zambia on Sunday.
His Zambian counterpart however, said the contest is far from over despite his charges putting up a below par performance against Zimbabwe.
Although the Mighty Warriors missed the services of playmaker, Rudo Neshamba, who is nursing a knee injury and rightback, Eunice Chibanda who was suspended, there were able replacements.
Marjory Nyaumwe and Emmaculate Msipa were dominant in midfield, while veteran Nobuhle Majika marshalled the defence with wingbacks Patience Mujuru and Shiela Makoto impressive throughout.
