WILLARD Katsande yesterday angrily declined to confirm claims by wantaway Zifa sponsor Wicknell Chivayo that he threatened to stand down as Warriors' captain in protest if the controversial national association benefactor withdraws his personal sponsorship.

The Kaizer Chiefs hardman instead accused Chronicle Sport of pursuing a hidden agenda he could not pinpoint.

Chivayo posted a long rant on his Facebook wall claiming that Katsande, Knowledge Musona and Costa Nhamoinesu had been giving him sleepless nights by calling and texting daily since he announced that he was walking away from the four-month-old Zifa deal.

"I am having sleepless nights; Willard Katsande is calling and texting everyday saying if you withdraw, I am resigning as the captain. Musona is also calling and texting saying 'boss journalists are very unprofessional please forgive us we need you," read Chivayo's post on his Facebook wall.

Nhamoinesu, according to Chivayo, asked for forgiveness. "Us as players are happy with your efforts," Nhamoinesu allegedly said in a texted message to Chivayo.

He also claimed that Zifa president Philip Chiyangwa asked him to forgive the nation and described the Sunday Mail reporter as "mad".

When repeatedly asked about Chivayo's claims yesterday, Katsande said: "Are you intimidating me so that I respond? Why are you so rude? I don't like it at all, bye."

He then asked to be called later saying he was busy. "We're having a photo shoot now with my club, could you call me back after 4PM and I'll respond to your question," said Katsande.

When contacted at the agreed time, Katsande was hostile.

"Why don't you ask him (Chivayo), why are you asking us? I'm sure you've his number and you can call and ask him," said Katsande.

When pressed further over the claims, Katsande said he did not want to comment saying he was concentrating on his Kaizer Chiefs job.

"Please, please boss, I don't want to comment on this saga and even what I'm saying now, I don't want to see it in the newspaper. I don't want to comment in the newspapers, I'm concentrating on Kaizer Chiefs to get back to our winning ways; that's what I'm trying to focus on please, please boss. I'm focusing on Kaizer Chiefs, I don't want to comment on anything," he said.

"You've already written about this thing, now you're calling me, for what? Are you guys having an agenda," he said before terminating the call and switching off his phone.
