Soccer academies brings hope for the development of soccer at grassroots level

Former soccer players in Zimbabwe's topflight league have hailed the establishment of soccer academies which they say have brought hope for the development of soccer at grassroots level since clubs have abandoned the junior policy, the ZBC reported.
With Premier Soccer League teams which used to have a vibrant junior policy having abandoned the noble project in search of ready-made products, soccer academies have stepped in to develop soccer at grass roots level.
Touched with the plight of young boys who are dreaming to make it big in soccer yet have no teams to give them chances to exhibit their talents, former Dynamos player, Allan Maphila together with former Amazulu goalkeeper, Themba Sibanda formed Dutch Soccer Academy which they envisage will fulfill young players' dreams.
Despite funding problems, the academy which has 40 boys has a team competing in the High Glen Junior League.
Clubs such as Highlanders, Caps United and Dynamos which used to churn out quality junior players appear to have adopted a short cut method to success and are now buying players.
