Women's community football seminar ends, in the capital

The Women's community football seminar held in Harare ended with the holding of a girls football festival at Rufaro Stadium on Friday.
After the official closing of the women's community football seminar at a hotel in the capital on Thursday, women's football enthusiasts converged at Rufaro Stadium this Friday to witness an exciting girls football festival which attracted young budding girls from the Under 15 age group.
The colourful event which was graced by numerous key stakeholders including former Warriors captain, Peter Ndlovu who is the new Women's football ambassador, saw girls engaging in small sided games in a gesture that highlighted the great potential that lies in the women's game.
Zimbabwe women's football Chairperson, Mavis Gumbo was delighted by the activity which saw key stakeholders converging for a 3-day seminar, indicating such a programme would be pivotal in ensuring the growth of the women's game.
"There is no better honour than this. We got support from the parents of the girls. What is left is for us to implement the lessons from FIFA and I can tell you that in the coming years women football would be a force to reckon with," she said.
FIFA development representative, Florie Ramogodi was also satisfied with the event which registered a high turnout.
"We are very satisfied by the seminar. Even the kids (girls) turnout was very encouraging and their parents came to support them," Ramogodi said.
The women's football community programme was organised by ZIFA and funded by FIFA as both parties sought to unlock the value in the girl child.
Christopher Bongozonga, Jackie Shipanga and Henry Tandawo were the instructors that passed on their expertise on how to run the women's game.
