Rahman Gumbo on the verge of making history with FC Platinum

FC PLATINUM are ready to become the second team to win the Premiership title in their debut season when they clash against Dynamos in a crucial Castle Lager Premiership match at Mandava tomorrow.
The Zvishavane miners want to emulate the trail-blazing Black Rhinos outfit of the 80's, which remains the only team to achieve the feat, when they clinched the title in 1984.
With the hype surrounding the conclusion of this year's championship, all roads lead to Mandava.
Platinum are the log leaders and have a three-point advantage.
They need either a victory at home or simply a draw to get their hands on the cup as their last match will be away to number one relegation candidates Shooting Stars.
FC Platinum secretary, Phillimon Muvengwa, yesterday said the Moneybags are looking for maximum points against Dynamos.
FC Platinum did themselves great favour when they registered a 2-0 away victory against Monomotapa.
Only two teams, CAPS United and Black Mambas, have managed to score in that stadium.
Will Dynamos become the third team to score on one of the best pitches in the country?
Will they become the first team to hand the league debutants their first defeat at their favourite hunting ground?
Dynamos might have a big fan base but neutrals will be rallying behind the miners as they strive to make history.
Rahman Gumbo is a renowned tactician who has won the title in three different countries.
He did it at home with Highlanders and in Malawi with MTL Wanderers and then lately with Botswana's Township Rollers. The championship-winning coach wants to add another championship medal in his cabinet.
With Gumbo's trusted defender Zephaniah Ngodzo back in the fold and Mernard Mupera anchoring the midfield with the assistance of young Joel "Josta" Ngodzo it will be an epic battle for the Glamour Boys.
Charles Sibanda and Benjamin Marere have struggled against Dynamos this season and on Sunday they will be expected to do better.
Meanwhile Shabanie Mine chairman Webster Chitono has asked the Chinda Boys' fans to rally behind neighbours FC Platinum.
"We are edging our fans to support FC Platinum and our wish is for them to win the championship.
"If we were around we could have gone with the whole team to give support to our neighbours but we will be in Bulawayo playing Chicken Inn as we try to save ourselves from relegation. My plea is for Shabanie fans that are not travelling to Bulawayo to rally behind FC Platinum and fans should try and bury the differences.
"We cannot force those who do not want but my appeal is for us to unite as a community.
"FC Platinum have done better than what we did in 2001. In our debut season we won the BP Cup and played in the Unity Cup final."FC Platinum have a big chance to win the biggest prize in the domestic league," said Chitono.
